12.30.2010

you're a bad boy or (boys)

Well it looks like the County Judge, The Sheriff and one of the
Commissioners have been charged with... OPPRESSION !! Be sure to
watch channel 7 news at 10 pm tonight for all the details.

Commissioner Court

The Court met a day early this time. It seems we will have public
comment again but they kicked the can down the road again and will
let the new court decide who and how it will be done. I am sure they
will mess it up but it will be fun to watch and will be educational
for the two new members. Well happy new year to everyone!

12.23.2010

Merry Christmas

Heres wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. Stay Safe and Happy!

12.21.2010

Who is Steve Findley

One of our readers ask a question. '' I know James Crittenten, Brenda
Patterson, and Peggy LaGrone. But who is Steve Findley?" So I'll put
it out there. Anybody want to answer?

12.20.2010

Eclipse

Don't forget to stay up watch the lunar eclipse tonight!

12.19.2010

They're gonna do it again !

According to the local paper, Ambrose is not happy with the outcome
of the trial. He wants a second opinion. So another trial will be the
first Monday of the new year. May Justice Prevail...

12.15.2010

Commissioners Court

Well putting duct tape on your mouth and going to the court house has
become so popular that people are coming from other counties to
participate. The news cameras were rolling and the show was on. One
Commissioner tried to rush the meeting to end but the other two
decided that " The show must go on ". The judge decided there was a
better place to be today and there were no signs of the sheriff or a
deputy on hand to threaten any of the tape wearers. Oh Upshur Co. you
never let us down.

12.14.2010

Geminid meteor shower

Skywatchers, grab your blankets. December's night sky spectacular will feature the best meteor shower of 2010 as well as the only total lunar eclipse of the year -- sights that should outshine any New Year's Eve fireworks display in terms of sheer wonder.
The massive Geminid meteor shower returns every year, so you'll have more chances if the cold proves too daunting on the night of Dec. 13. But anyone in North America who skips the total lunar eclipse on the night of Dec. 20 will be missing what promises to be the best lunar eclipse show until April 2014.

Republican vs Republican

Well the trial is over, and the winner is.... I don't know and I
really don't care. The Democrat Judge seemed to have fun watching
them go at each other and Ordered them to get along. His closing
remarks quoting Will Rogers, " I am not a member of an organized
political party, I'm a Democrat". But after watching this trial I
believe Mr. Rogers may have been a Republican. Was classic.

12.01.2010

Still the same old stuff

Well the Guy with the tape on his mouth was there again, Seems he was
threatened with jail if he didn't leave. Now you can't speak and
There is only certain ways you can be Quite. We also got the first
report from the Road Engineer. Seem they've been doing it wrong all
along. Well it's always good for a Laugh!!

11.20.2010

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ! ! !

Heres wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Things might look bad
but we really do have plenty to be thankful for.

To our right-leaning friends

To our right-leaning friends – What, specifically, to you expect of the Republicans in control of the Upshur county commissioners court over the next two years such that if these things are not accomplished you will consider it a failure? And- What, specifically, do you expect of the Republicans in control of the entire state government by an overwhelming margin to do over the next two years, such that, if these things are not accomplished you will consider it a failure?

Locally Republicans are taking all the races.

10.30.2010

Election

Early voting ended Friday. record turnout. We will have to see if
that means more voters on Tuesday or less voters on Tuesday. Everyone
needs to vote. Last chance Tuesday Nov. 2, 7am - 7pm.

10.21.2010

Early voting

So far turn out at all three early voting places is high. People seem
to be staying in the voting booth longer than usual, which means
they're not just filling in the strait party box and leaving. There
seems to be a lot of thinking going on out there. Good or Bad?

10.17.2010

Early voting

Early voting starts monday Oct. 18. We will be checking voter totals
from around the county. Stay with us for all the election data and be
sure to join the conversation.

Upshur County Conservative Coalition.

I received this invitation yesterday and decided to pas it on. You may, if you like, consider this your invitation. This coalition idea is sweeping the country and several groups like VOCAL (pac) out of Gregg County and  ETXCA (pac) out of Hideaway Lake have been formed to help organize all the small conservative patriot groups into larger groups dedicated to becoming more Pro Active in local and state political races. The Upshur County Grassroots Tea Party has already formed associations with Vocal, and ETXCA and intends to link with as many other Constitutionally Conservative groups as possible, so that our voices can be more often heard and at sufficient numbers as to get our capitals attention. The Upshur County Conservative Coalition promises to be Pro Active in recruiting and supporting 'true conservative candidates for public office' while discourage candidates from jumping parties just for a better chance to get elected (Rhino, Cino, & Dino). Something many of us feel our local parties are not doing. Cinos   (conservatives in name only) and Rhinos have fragmented the American political landscape and we must become better at identifying them before they are elected to public office.

9.01.2010

ROAD ENGINEER!!!

Well we got one. Well actually it's the third one. But we will see
how long this one last. He says he is going to have a public forum
where citizens can tell him what they expect. whew! I don't know if
he knows what he's in for. Well we wish him all the luck, and maybe
we can get at least one road fixed. Two commissioners voted not to
hire him, they did not say why, but one of them will be gone in
January, the other will just have to learn to get along. Ha what am I
saying? he just needs to move along.

8.17.2010

Road engineer

Well it looks like we're gonna get an engineer. The commissioners
interviewed four candidates Monday and put the money in the budget.
Now eight years after voting for the 'Engineer Unit Road System' the
voters may finally get what they wanted. Good luck to all !

8.02.2010

Commissioners Court

The Judge says Our taxes have not gone up since he's been in office.
Well Mine sure has.

7.21.2010

Republicans

Hey look the Republicans are back in the news, Now that they are "
Reorganized" They are gonna go clean up their mess at the Senior
Citizens building. Republicans cleaning up their mess... Maybe that
could work in Iraq or Afghanistan.

7.20.2010

Sheriff

Well it looks like the Sheriff has done went and got himself in a
whole peck of trouble.

7.11.2010

Commissioners Court

When it comes to paying lawyer bills, we have a Policy, or do we? To
quote the Judge... "What does our policy say?" WE NEED LEADERSHIP!!!
By the way, If you are big on voting out all incumbents, Dean Fowler
is one! FYI

6.20.2010

commissioners court

To quote the Road Administrator " If we consider repairing these
three roads, then we must consider working on other roads in the
county". Isn't fixing the roads in the county what they are supposed
to be doing? What's to consider?

Libertarians Select Governor Candidate

WHO AM I AND WHY AM I RUNNING?

I am Katherine Youngblood Glass, a Houston lawyer who has worked in the liberty movement for 30 years.  I want to be the next governor of Texas because America and Texas are at a pivotal crossroads.

Our liberty and economic well-being are being consciously and deliberately sabotaged by our federal government and will be lost if we do not act swiftly to restore our sovereignty.  I am the only person running who appears to appreciate this imminent danger, much less have a plan to resist it and the will to do so.

I believe in American exceptionalism.  America is exceptional because we believe in freedom.   Our country was founded on it, and our Constitution guarantees it.

And, the most exceptional part of America is TEXAS!   No other place on earth has our unique history and culture of liberty.

Our freedom is under assault like never before, with the most critical attacks coming from our out-of-control federal government.  The recent federal takeover of our health care is just the most recent and -- to date -- most dangerous act of aggression on our individual sovereignty and our Texas state sovereignty.

We have suffered a long train of abuses -- absurd and unconstitutional EPA regulations on our citizens and businesses, equally unconstitutional attacks on our individual right to keep and bear arms, interference with our schools and other institutions that lead to higher taxes.
And now, government control of virtually every aspect of our lives under Obamacare.

And the usurpations on the horizon by not only our federal government but the United Nations in conjunction with our federal government -- such as the Law of the Sea and Small Arms Disarmament treaties -- are, if possible, even more alarming.

Regrettably, our current governor has passively submitted to this subversion and at times even seems to actively promote it.   He seems intent on running our state "Washington D.C." style instead of Texas style.  Runaway taxes, exploding  spending,  escalating debt,  ever-growing government, and confiscation of property so he can give it to foreign interests -- where will it end?

We must have leaders who will fight for our rights as individuals and as a State and indeed for America itself.   For, if America fails, where can we run to and live in freedom?  This is freedom's last stand.

We cannot fail.  We must not fail.  We will not fail.

Texas must lead this fight.  We must be a beacon to other states, to America, and to the world to show them the way back to liberty.  We must be an example and a fortress for freedom.

Fortunately, we are not without tools.   Through aggressive use of nullification and interposition, we must reclaim our Ninth and Tenth Amendment sovereignty by opposing the unconstitutional laws passed by, and powers usurped by, our federal government and international bodies.  Such efforts are being tried in other states, and it is a shame that Texas is not leading the way on this, or even bringing up the rear!

As realists, we know that we face many serious challenges.  But our belief in the indomitable spirit of the individual makes us optimistic that we can solve any problem if we can make our own decisions about the problems that confront us.

Winston Churchill described four stages of a fight for the right: 1) you can easily win without cost, 2) victory is sure and not too costly, 3) the odds are against you and the costs huge, and 4) there is no chance of victory but it is better to perish than live as slaves.  As I see it, our fight is between the second and third stages.

     So, let's get started.   http://kathie4guv.com/

6.15.2010

Commissioners Court

Once again our Illustrious Commissioners have no problem spending
lots of tax money on " color" cameras for the jail house and another
set of drawings to remodel the courthouse, But when it comes to
fixing the roads, well we'll just have to be patient and see if they
can get to it.

BRENDA PATTERSON'S RE-ELECTION TO THE SREC

 PATTERSON UNANIMOUSLY RE-ELECTED

Saturday at the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) State Convention in Dallas, Brenda Patterson of Upshur County was re-elected by acclamation to her second two-year term as a member of the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC).  Over 250 elected Delegates from the 16 northeast Texas counties that make up Senate District 1 heard our State Representative Bryan Hughes nominate Mrs. Patterson, reminding delegates of her yeoman's service to Upshur County and to the Republican Party of Texas.  By state law, the 62 members of SREC act as the governing body of the Republican Party of Texas.

This affirmation of Mrs. Patterson's dedicated service to the Republican Party is in stark contrast to continuing attempts to defame Mrs. Patterson in local newspapers by Ken Ambrose.  Last Wednesday The Gilmer Mirror quoted Mr. Ambrose in another cheap shot stating he will "clean up the mess that the party has become over the past five years under the failed leadership of my predecessor (Brenda Patterson) and I fully intend to do exactly that.  Of course, in the short term, it won't be pretty…"

Nothing could be further from the truth.  For seven years Mrs. Patterson put in countless unpaid hours serving the Republicans of Upshur County.  Those who are most aware of this are the precinct chairmen who, along with the chairman, make up the county executive committee (EC) as specified under Texas Election Code 171.022 which specifically excludes appointed officers from the EC.  The majority of the EC has always strongly supported Mrs. Patterson in spite of vicious attacks of a small handful of individuals, who have now been joined by Ken Ambrose.

This support by the majority of the executive committee continues today.  Mr. Ambrose made a ridiculous and totally inaccurate charge in Saturday's Mirror that only one of nine named precinct chairs were elected and the other eight were handpicked by Mrs. Patterson.  All 14 of the current precinct chairs were elected in accordance with Texas election law. All 14 duly filed as candidates for the March 2 primary.  By state law the candidates who did not draw an opponent were automatically elected and their names are not to be placed on the ballot by Texas election law.  Those precinct chairman candidates with opponents are required to have their names placed on the ballot.  It appears that 11 of these 14 current precinct chairs support Mrs. Patterson as our SREC representative, while Mr. Ambrose refuses to speak civilly to her.  Hopefully, Mr. Ambrose will recognize that Mrs. Patterson represents our county party on the SREC and will treat her with normally expected common courtesy.  These same 11 precinct chairs are anxious to unify with Mr. Ambrose if he will follow state law, which mandates following the rules of the RPT and Robert's Rules of Order.

At the Organizational Meeting on June 5 Mr. Ambrose did not follow Section 163.002 of the Texas Election Code, RPT rules # 5, #7 and 8.d, which specifically require the compliance with Robert's Rules of Order for all Republican Party meetings from precinct level to the state level.  Elected precinct chairs were not allowed to vote on Bylaws.  Without authorization of the executive committee, Mr. Ambrose appointed 6 unelected vice chairmen and had County Judge Dean Fowler swear them in.  Since the executive committee was not allowed to adopt Bylaws, this action is null and void.  Mr. Ambrose continues to receive numerous requests to nullify the defective meeting of June 5 and call a new organizational meeting with an independent certified parliamentarian in place to educate and guide Chairman Ambrose's use of Roberts Rules of Order and the subsequent compliance with the rules of the Republican Party of Texas.

Republican Leadership

Someone once told me that you only need one thing to be a leader.....
Followers! It looks like Mr. Ambrose is lacking in that area.

6.06.2010

New Republican Leadership Sworn In

The local paper says Ambrose and the new Executive committee are now
in place and he is already " warning" people and "threatening" a full
audit of the financial records of the party. Got him a big government
attorney, too. He's the gift that just keeps on giving.

Finally we are coming to the Close of the Run Off Elections Tomorrow.

From: Chuck Mears

Sometimes it seems we would never get to the end of this primary election, but like all things that are difficult, some will finally get a sigh of relief after tomorrow. As tired as we supporters are, imagine how the candidates must feel. Those who lose tomorrow will have mixed feelings because they have lost but will be glad to see the stress level fall. Some of those who win tomorrow will likely have mixed emotions, for even though they have won against their own party rivals, most will now have to continue their campaign against the opposing party's candidate, with only a short rest at best.

Political elections in America have often contained strong emotions, both for the candidates and voters. One aspect of political contests that contain mixed emotions, is the act of revealing the negative characteristics of a political adversary. Americans usually refer to this as 'mud slinging'. Rarely do we enjoy and many condemn this element of a political contest. I never enjoy the process but I do recognize both the negative and positive benefits for the voter.

The vast majority of  voters get their information about a candidate by what they hear or read, not by personal experience or knowledge. Mud slinging is a part of that hearing and reading process that can serve to educate a voter about the candidates, in a least two ways. If mud slinging comes with a legitimate document it can be considered a positive educational element about the provable characteristics of a candidate, but if mud slinging does not contain documents, it should be counted as a negative against the slinger, which can be nothing more than a lie or rumor.

The realities of political contests are that some contain all good candidates, some contain all poor candidates and some only contain one good candidate. In all cases,  wise voters are forced to decide by mathematics. Subtract the rumors, add up the positive and negative  'documents,'  vote for one with the most positive documents and against the one with the most negative documentation. In my humble opinion, any other method that does not include these elements is unwise. Like playing the casino slot machines and expecting to win every time, based only on a casinos advertising claims or one's emotional based, 'feeling lucky'.

Polls open April 13, 2010 in most of the same places you voted at in the primary election.

Sincerely,

Chuck
